Debate on Open Theism: James White vs John Sanders (DVD)
Practically, it makes the case for a God who is able to be influenced through prayer, decisions, and actions of people. According to it defenders, God does not fully know the future. He has predictive (anticipatory) foreknowledge of the future through his intimate knowledge of each individual, but does not know, control nor plan each event. He is only able to anticipate the future, remaining fluid to respond and react to man’s prayers and decisions.
Open Theism stands in contradistinction to the great creeds and confession of the church, especially to that system of theology known as historic Calvinism. Reformed theology teaches that God is immutable, impassible, sovereign and timeless. Historic Christian theology believes that God fully determines the future; that He is the author and finisher of history. Therefore, God, and not man is absolutely free – free to do all His Holy will.
In this debate, Dr. James White (D.Min., Th.D.) squares off against John Sanders (Ph.D.) in what is one of the most discussed debates of our time. Held in the chapel of the Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida, this debate is over two and a half hours long.
